The Texas Railroad Commission is the state agency responsible for regulating the oil and gas industry, pipeline safety, and surface coal and uranium mining in Texas. Established in 1891, it is the oldest regulatory agency in the state and no longer regulates railroads, a function transferred to the Texas Department of Transportation in 2005.

15th Court of Appeals -- NEW
The legislature created the 15th Court of Appeals in 2023. It began in 2024. The court has statewide jurisdiction over civil cases involving the state and its agencies.
It also handles appeals from the new Texas Business Court and other civil matters, distinguishing it from the existing regional courts of appeals.
